Small Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA) Chief Executive Officer, Boyd Moobwe has urged government to come up with a unique approach to supporting small scale farmers in the country.
Mr. Moobwe observes that most small-scale farmers have a limited income, hence hindering their full potential in contributing to food security in the country.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Moobwe said he sympathizes with farmers, whom he said are currently trading their farming inputs to raise a K400 needed by government for their inputs.
He however said it is saddening that well to do individuals in communities are demanding unfair payments, such as part of Maize fields, for them to lend the K400 to the farmers that cannot afford.
“The past drought made the financial status of most small-scale farmers worse than it has been,” bemoaned Mr. Moobwe.
He advised government to pay closer attention to the plight of the small-scale farmers.
