REDUCE PAYE TO EASE COST OF LIVING – GPZ

Opposition Golden Party of Zambia (GPZ) President, Jackson Silavwe, has urged the government to consider reducing Pay As You Earn (PAYE) to help mitigate the high cost of living affecting many Zambians.

Mr. Silavwe says government must also consider introducing direct tax incentives for households and local businesses to keep the economy afloat.

He stressed that practical interventions are necessary to address the rising cost of living, rather than relying solely on job creation initiatives.

“The government should also consider implementing a debt swap program for civil servants and other workers whose loan repayment interest rates have significantly increased,” he said.

Mr. Silavwe further criticized the UPND government, stating that it has continuously drained money from the local economy by raising the monetary policy rate (MPR).
