The Reformed Church of Zambia (RCZ) has called for more child protection sensitization campaigns in communities to create a safer environment for children and prevent cases of sexual abuse and trauma.
This follows a surge in child defilement and incest cases in the country, including a recent incident in Lusaka’s Balastone area, where a man allegedly defiled his three daughters, all under the age of 16.
In another case, a father was reported to have sexually assaulted his 7-year-old daughter, who is battling cancer at the Cancer Disease Hospital.
Speaking to RCV News in Lusaka today, RCZ Synod Vice Secretary, Reverend Eneless Chilolo, expressed deep sorrow over these disturbing incidents.
She emphasized that the church must not relent in its efforts to educate communities about the importance of safeguarding children from sexual violence, particularly through group meetings and outreach programs.
“Children who experience such horrific abuse are at high risk of long-term trauma,” said Rev. Chilolo.
She further urged society to take an active role in advocating against child abuse and strengthening protective measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all children.
