The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has called on radio and television stations across the country to increase early-warning content on climate change.
The call comes as IBA joins the world in commemorating World Radio Day today, observed under the theme “Radio and Climate Change.”
IBA Acting Director General Susen Ndumingu said this year’s theme is particularly relevant, as it highlights the important role broadcasting stations play in addressing climate challenges.
“Radio is uniquely positioned to deliver early-warning information to the public due to its reach and accessibility,” said Ms. Ndumingu.
She has since called on broadcasting stations to dedicate more airtime to climate change content to help communities prepare for and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Ms. Ndumingu has also encouraged collaboration between media houses, meteorological experts, and disaster management agencies to improve the quality and effectiveness of climate change reporting.
