PROTECT WHISTLEBLOWERS IN HEALTH SECTOR – ZMA

The Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) has urged government to put in place effective systems to protect whistleblowers in the health sector.

ZMA President, Kaumba Tolopu, says many individuals are reluctant to report cases of corruption due to fear of being fired or victimised.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Dr. Tolopu emphasized the need for strong legal and institutional safeguards to encourage transparency and accountability within the health system.

“Health workers and other stakeholders must feel safe to speak out against malpractice or corruption without fear of retaliation,” said Dr. Tolopu.

He further noted that protecting whistleblowers is essential for strengthening service delivery and restoring public confidence in the health sector.
