The Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) has cautioned consumers not to expect immediate reductions in the prices of goods and services, following the recent appreciation of the Kwacha against major foreign currencies.
ZACA Executive Secretary, Juba Sakala, says for the Kwacha to have a meaningful impact on the cost of food and other essential commodities, the currency’s appreciation must be sustained for more than a month.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Sakala expressed concern over the persistently high cost of living, noting that it remains a heavy burden on consumers.
“Whatever measures government has implemented to strengthen the Kwacha must be commended but these gains must be maintained over a longer period for their benefits to trickle down to household economies,” said Mr. Sakala.
Mr. Sakala urged policymakers to remain consistent in efforts aimed at achieving long-term economic stability that can translate into real relief for ordinary Zambians.
