President Hakainde Hichilema has expressed appreciation to Zambian peacekeepers serving under various United Nations Peacekeeping Missions around the world.
In a message delivered on his behalf by Minister of Defence Ambrose Lufuma, President Hichilema praised the dedication, sacrifice, and bravery exhibited by Zambian peacekeepers in the pursuit of global peace and security.
The message was conveyed during a prayer service held at Arakan Barracks in Lusaka, to commemorate the United Nations International Day of Peacekeepers.
Mr. Lufuma said that government is committed to equipping peacekeepers with the necessary tools and support to effectively execute their mandate in conflict zones.
He further called on the United Nations to intensify efforts in preventing and resolving conflicts that continue to harm innocent civilians globally.
“The people who lead communities affected by conflict have the power to bring lasting peace if they choose dialogue and reconciliation over violence, ” said Mr. Lufuma.
Meanwhile, United Nations Resident Coordinator, Beatrice Mutali, paid tribute to the bravery and selflessness of Zambian peacekeepers serving in different parts of the world.
