President Hakainde Hichilema says the successful restructuring of the country’s debt gives a chance to Zambia to shift the mindset regarding the management of public affairs.
The President wrote on his Official Facebook Page today that the fact that the unsustainable debt situation was brought about by exorbitant expenditure, mismanagement of public resources, mal-administration and corruption, can not be ignored.
Mr. Hichilema said government is now enhancing the opportunity to grow the economy by bringing investor confidence and, to pay greater attention to the management of the resources across all Ministries and government departments, in the post-debt restructuring era.
“We expect nothing less than prudence and we will ensure that the law enforcement and prosecution authorities act swiftly against those who choose to engage in corrupt practices and abuse their authority”, wrote Mr. Hichilema.
President Hichilema said never again must Zambia find itself in such a crisis where debt levels become so unsustainable that they burden the treasury and hinder the ability to serve the citizens effectively.
“This government will not tolerate such circumstances, neither will we tolerate corruption or the theft of public resources,” read his Facebook post.
