Governance and Development Advocates Zambia (GDAZ) has condemned the formation of unregistered groupings of individuals and political parties, under the guise of mergers, partnerships, coalitions or alliances.
GDAZ Executive Director, Elias Mulenga, says those who do not comply with the registration procedures as mandated by the Zambian law should disband immediately.
In a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Mulenga called on the Inspector of Police and the Registrar of Societies to prevent unregistered entities from holding meetings anywhere in Zambia.
Mr. Mulenga warned that the gatherings of the unregistered entities pose a risk to national stability by exploiting the principles of democracy, human rights, and freedoms.
“These unregistered groupings could undermine the democratic process, potentially leading to authoritarianism,” warned Mr. Mulenga.
He expressed concern that individuals might seek to gain control by disregarding democratic institutions, principles, and the legitimately elected government.
Mr. Mulenga further accused these groups of attempting to manipulate and control the political landscape, which is under the stewardship of President Hakainde Hichilema.
