Police in Lusaka are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, around 18:00 hours along Great East Road near the UNZA Footbridge.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, the accident involved an unidentified male pedestrian, believed to be between 40 and 45 years old, who sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr. Hamoonga said that the incident also involved an unknown driver operating an unidentified motor vehicle, which was traveling east to west saying that the driver fled the scene, and the extent of the vehicle’s damage remains unknown.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident happened when the pedestrian attempted to cross the road from the southern to the northern side and was struck by the vehicle,” said Mr. Hamoonga in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He added that the deceased’s body has been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary, where it awaits identification and a postmortem examination.
