POLICE GUN DOWN ONE CRIMINAL IN CHONGWE

Police in Chongwe District have shot and wounded one suspected criminal while the other escaped the dragnet without injuries.

The shooting incident occurred on July 11, 2024, around 18:00 hours.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale, says the two are believed to be among other suspects who hide in Chongwe District after committing crimes in Lusaka.

Mr. Mwale said they have been on Police wanted list for various criminal offences including cases of obtaining money by false pretences involving K820, 000 they fraudulently procured from three people in Lusaka.

“Police officers in Chongwe who had the description of the suspects and the Toyota Mark X they were using spotted the suspects in Mwalongo village area,” said Mr. Mwale in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Mr. Mwale said the suspects sped off after noticing Police presence, but officers gave a chase and deflated their rear tyres before the suspects abandoned their vehicle and ran away.

He said one suspect who was later identified as Arnold Namushi, aged 20, was hit by bullets and sustained wounds on his left thigh and left arm.

Mr. Mwale said he was later rushed to the Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

He added that a manhunt for the other suspect has been launched.
