PF MP’S URGED TO CHALLENGE DECISION TO DECLARE THEIR SEATS VACANT

Operation Young Vote (OYV) has urged the nine Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament whose seats in the National Assembly were declared vacant yesterday, to appeal the decision in the courts of law.

Yesterday, the National Assembly declared seats vacant for, Brian Mundubile of Mporokoso, Stephen Kampyongo, of Shiwang’andu, Remember Mutale of Chitambo, Ronald Chitotela of Pambashe, Mulenga Fube of Chilubi, Mutotwe Kafwaya of Lunte, Christopher Kangombe of Kamfinsa and Mpakata Musonda of Lupososhi constituency following their expulsion from their political party.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, OYV Executive Director Guess Nyirenda  said the country cannot afford to have 9 by elections at a time when Zambians are experiencing food shortages and loadshedding caused by the drought.

“The decision to have their seats declared vacant is untimely and should be reversed through the courts,” said Mr. Nyirenda.

Mr. Nyirenda said that the money intended for the by elections should be resources channelled to providing relief food to households affected by drought across the country.
