Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, has confirmed that Petauke Central member of parliament, Emmanuel Jay Banda, who escaped from custody on 4th August 2024 in Chipata district, has been arrested in Zimbabwe.
Mr. Mwiimbu says Mr. Banda was arrested yesterday at around 10:00hrs at a flat he was renting in Harare.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Mwiimbu said that Mr. Banda will remain in police custody in Harare, until preparations to bring him back to Zambia are made.
“Government is also working to investigate on who abetted and sponsored the escape of Mr. Banda from the country,” said Mr. Mwiimbu.
And Mr. Mwiimbu has appealed to opposition leaders to desist from making false statements on the arrests of Mr. Banda, adding that the nation will be informed on the outcomes of the investigation.
