Beit Cure Children’s Hospital Communications Officer, Caren Ngosa, has appealed to parents and guardians in communities to stop hiding children living with disabilities and instead allow them to be seen, accepted, and supported as equal members of society.
Ms. Ngosa says children with disabilities are equally human and deserve the same love, opportunities, and respect as any other child.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News, Ms. Ngosa has expressed concern that some families continue to keep children with disabilities out of public spaces due to fear, shame, or negative societal attitudes, a practice she said denies the children their basic rights and dignity.
“Children with disabilities should not be hidden away. They belong to the world just like any other child, and they deserve to be exposed to opportunities that will help them grow and reach their full potential, “said Ms. Ngosa.
Ms. Ngosa also called on communities to end the stigma directed at children with disabilities and the families and caregivers who look after them, noting that discrimination only worsens the challenges faced by both the children and their caretakers.
She emphasized the importance of community support, awareness, and inclusion, adding that acceptance plays a critical role in improving the wellbeing and confidence of children living with disabilities.
Ms. Ngosa further urged community members to embrace diversity and work together to create an inclusive environment where all children can thrive without fear of discrimination or exclusion.
