PANOS CALLS FOR LEGAL FRAMEWORKS TO STRENGTHEN DIGITAL GOVERNANCE

The Panos Institute Southern Africa has urged the government to establish enabling legal frameworks that support digital governance and enhance citizen participation in governance processes.

Institute Executive Director, Vusumuzi Sifile, emphasized that clear regulations would build public confidence, define stakeholder roles in promoting good governance, and guide citizens on how to use digital platforms to hold decision-makers accountable.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Sifile underscored the importance of civic engagement in helping citizens understand both the opportunities and challenges of digital governance.

He called for a multi-sectoral approach to promoting digital literacy and developing sustainable, adaptable legal frameworks that can respond to future technological advancements.

“There is a need for government to expand digital governance to remote areas, ensuring a more inclusive and engaging online space that builds public trust without leaving anyone behind,” said Mr. Sifile.

He further urged communities to actively engage in digital governance and recognize its potential to drive national development.

Additionally, he stressed the role of various stakeholders in promoting information integrity, which is essential for fostering transparency and accountability in governance.
