People’s Alliance for Change PAC President, Andyford Banda, has called for policy changes by government, to move away from foreign direct investment and allow Zambians to own the economy.
Mr. Banda was reacting to the 17% tariffs imposed on Zambia’s imports to the United States of America, when he featured on Christian Voices’ Chatback program in Lusaka today, on the topic, “ National Matters”.
Mr. Banda said that there is need to capacitate Zambians to own key economic sectors of the country, to ensure money remains in the local economy.
“The idea of always depending on investments from foreigners is what causes economic shocks when policy changes arise on the global level,” said Mr. Banda.
He argued that while foreign investment is important, it should not come at the cost of sidelining local entrepreneurs and investors.
