OVER K17 MILLION PAID OUT IN CASH FOR WORK PROGRAM IN LUMEZI

Government has so far paid K17,711,400  to beneficiaries who have participated in the Cash for Work program implementation in Lumezi District of Eastern Province.

This amount has been paid out to 29,519 residents of Lumezi who voluntarily exchanged their labour for Cash payment under the Cash for Work program since its launch in September, 2024 in the district.

In a statement issued  to RCV News today, Lumezi Town Council Assistant Public Relations Officer Irvin Muyumbwa  said all beneficiaries are drawn from the eleven wards of Lumezi who embraced the government program, introduced as an emergency intervention to the drought which characterized the 2022/2023 farming season thereby posing a hunger threat.

“So far, the over 29,000 beneficiaries of Cash for Work program in Lumezi have been able to generate income, improving their financial stability after earning K600 upon completion of a 10 days working period,” said Mr. Muyumbwa.

Mr. Muyumbwa said the program has also  been instrumental in poverty reduction through increased food security using resources earned in exchange for beneficiaries’ labour while at the same time improving infrastructure development.

He has since commended beneficiaries for their dedication towards the Cash for Work program implementation through their eager participation under each phase.
