The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has formalized a total of 822 marriages in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 17.9% decline compared to the 1,002 marriages recorded during the same period in 2024.
LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager, Nyambe Bulumba, of the 822 marriages registered this year, 781 were ordinary marriages while 41 were express marriages.
“To promote the legalization of marriages, the Council remains committed to conducting sensitization campaigns aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of formalized unions,” said Mr. Bulumba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Mr. Bulumba emphasized that by actively engaging with the community, the council aims to improve public understanding of the importance of legally recognized marriages.
He also highlighted the broader social benefits of legalized unions, including enhanced legal protections, increased family stability, and positive contributions to society.
Mr. Bulumba has since called on members of the public to embrace the practice of legalizing their unions and to take pride in ensuring that their relationships are formally recognized.
