The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has registered 2,200 clubs between September 2023 and December 2024, in an effort to enhance residents’ access to Constituency Development Fund (CDF) empowerment initiatives.
In 2024, a total of 1,300 clubs were registered compared to 900 clubs registered in 2023 across all seven constituencies in the district.
LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said that during the period under review, Munali Constituency recorded the highest number of clubs registered by the Council, standing at 496 while Lusaka Central Constituency had the lowest with 103 clubs.
“Kabwata Constituency recorded the second highest number of clubs with 375, followed by Kanyama with 331, Chawama with 320, Mandevu with 308 and Matero with 267,” said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
Ms. Mwamba said out of the 900 clubs registered in 2023, 459 clubs have already benefited from empowerment funds under the 2024 Constituency Development Fund – CDF allocation.
She has reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to fostering inclusive development by ensuring transparent and equitable access to empowerment opportunities through CDF.
Ms. Mwamba has encouraged the public to take advantage of the ongoing club registration to formalize their clubs at a fee of K280, thereby enabling them to access CDF empowerment initiatives.
On 29th September 2023, the city council commenced the registration of clubs in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019 Cap 16 (2) and CDF Guidelines.
