The Medicines Research and Access Platform (MedRAP) has welcomed the administration of the Oral Cholera Vaccine, aimed at preventing cholera in vulnerable populations.
MedRAP Executive Director, Liyoka Liyoka, has emphasized the need for pharmacovigilance activities to assess the vaccine’s impact on affected populations.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, Mr. Liyoka stressed the importance of post-marketing surveillance and pharmacovigilance in monitoring any potential effects of the vaccine.
“It is essential for any newly introduced medicine to undergo thorough evaluation to understand its effectiveness and compare it with existing treatments,” said Mr. Liyoka.
He further urged the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority to take an active role in the monitoring process to document findings that could help improve the Oral Cholera Vaccine.
