ONE DEAD, ANOTHER INJURED IN CHISAMBA MINE SHOOTING

Police in Chisamba have launched a manhunt after a shooting at a gold mine left one person dead and another seriously injured.

The incident happened in the early hours of today around 02:00 at Fish Pond Gold Mine Camps in the Chipembi area.

Zambia Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, says Eddy Mwandu of Mukululu Compound in Kabwe reported the matter that his cousin, Gift Mwandu aged 29, and another man identified as Victor Mulenga aged 35, were shot by unknown people while they were asleep in a tent.

“The victims reportedly stepped outside after hearing gunshots and spotted three unidentified individuals at a distance, then another shot was fired, hitting both men,” said Mr. Chilabi in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said that Eddy Mwandu run his life but later returned to find the two wounded adding that they were rushed to Chipembi Rural Health Centre, but sadly, Gift Mwandu was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr. Chilabi said that Mr. Mulenga was later transferred to Liteta Hospital for further treatment.

He said that Police the suspects fled and are yet to be identified adding that the weapon used, believed to be a shotgun, has not been recovered.
