The Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Foundation has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema and the Zambian people on Zambia’s 60th independence anniversary.
Foundation Chairperson, Ompie Liebenthal, noted Zambia’s six decades of independence, highlighting its stability and development.
This was during a two-day conference on forgotten heroes and heroines of Zambia’s independence struggle in Lusaka, organized by the Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Foundation and the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research (SAIPAR), with support from Ireland and the UK.
Ms. Liebenthal emphasized the conference’s focus on the forgotten heroes and heroines of Zambia’s independence struggle and urged the government to consider the plight of surviving freedom fighters, now in their 80s and 90s.
The conference aimed to revisit narratives of the independence struggle and explore reasons for forgetting those who played pivotal roles in Zambia’s fight for political freedom.
