NINE LCC-RUN MARKETS GET ALTERNATIVE POWER

Lusaka City Council (LCC) says nine Council-run markets in Lusaka have had diesel-powered generators  installed by ZESCO Limited, to facilitate alternative supply of electricity amidst the challenge of power supply outages.

The benefiting Markets are Kamwala, Kabwata, Chainda, Chilenje, Nyumba Yanga, Chelston, City Market, Soweto and Matero Markets.

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, says  the installation of generators is a huge win towards improving reliability of power supply in the markets and that this will stabilise revenue collection done by the Local Authority.

Ms. Mwamba said the installation of generators will enable the smooth running of businesses in the markets especially those that entirely rely on electricity such as barbershops, saloons, bakeries, butcheries and welders among others.

“The alternative power supply will also improve on the supply of water in the markets that have boreholes and depend on electricity to pump water,” said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

She has since implored all traders and business owners operating in these markets to guard the installed generators jealously and avoid vandalizing them.
