NGOCC CONCERNED WITH VERBAL ATTACKS ON WOMEN MP’S

The Non-Governmental Gender Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has expressed concern over the verbal abuse directed at women parliamentarians in the National Assembly.

This comes in the wake of an incident involving Mpika Member of Parliament, Francis Kapyanga, whose remarks towards Mwandi Member of Parliament, Sibeso Sefulo, sparked widespread disapproval.

NGOCC Chairperson, Beauty Katebe, says the derogatory remarks were deliberately calculated to undermine and disrespect a female Parliamentarian.

“Despite  Mr. Kapyanga apologizing to Ms. Sefulo, the remarks captured on live TV has the potential to discourage women from participating in the affairs of the country through the  National Assembly,” said Ms. Katebe in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

She has therefore reminded Members of Parliament to hold the highest standards befitting the decorum of Parliament, by ensuring that they guard against unpalatable language especially against women parliamentarians.
