National Food and Nutrition Commission (NFNC) has called on partners in the provision of relief food to Zambia, to help supplement foods that can boost nutritional levels among the drought affected communities.
Zambia’s drought situation has affected 84 districts with the President declaring it a national disaster and emergency.
National Food and Nutrition Commission Deputy Executive Director, Mathews Mhuru, therefore says there is need to factor in the nutrition angles among the vulnerable as stakeholders respond to the drought through the provision of food.
Speaking to journalists in Lusaka, on the sidelines of the Southern Africa Youth in Climate Change Forum this week, Mr. Mhuru said the commission is yet to see foods that complement the dietary needs reach the affected communities.
“The commission has been going round to see how best the nutritional interest of children, among drought hit districts, can be supported,” said Mr. Mhuru.
