NDA TO CAPACITATE ZAMBIANS ON WATER HARVESTING

The National Designated Authority (NDA) says it is working with the Finnish government on building capacity among Zambians on harvesting rain water.

NDA National Coordinator Billy Katontoka says this is a direct response to the President’s directive to capacitate Zambians on water harvesting in view of climate change.

Speaking recently on the sidelines of this years Zambia International Trade fair in Ndola, Mr. Katontoka said that building capacity among Zambians on water harvesting will ensure knowledge on water use during droughts.

“Zambia can benefit from the expertise that Finland has on water harvesting to ensure rain water is harnessed and harvested,” said Mr. Katontoka.

He stressed the need for Zambians to participate in the capacity building programs for them to effectively contribute to the usage of water prudently.

And Mr. Katontoka has also revealed that (NDA) is in talks with the world Metrological Department on how it can capacitate the Zambia Metrological Department MET.

Mr. Katontoka said that the a well informed and capacitated MET department will ensure prudent monitoring of weather conditions.

He said that a vibrant metrological department is key on ensuring the nation plans well especially during the planting season.

He has also emphasized on the need for collaboration with cooperating partners to ensure the nation is resilient and climate smart through rolling out projects that are sustainable.
