The Southern African Development Community Accreditation Services (SADCAS) has accredited and handed over the ISO 17025:2017 accreditation certificate, to the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA)’s National Quality Control Laboratory.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Lusaka today, Minister of Health, Elija Muchima, said the National Quality Control Laboratory accreditation will enhance Zambia’s capacity to detect substandard and counterfeit drugs, thereby protecting the lives of the people and promoting public trust in the healthcare systems
Dr. Muchima said the accreditation also strengthens Zambia’s regulatory frameworks, enabling the country to better oversee the pharmaceutical landscape and ensure compliance with both local and international standards.
“An accredited Laboratory positions Zambia as a competitive player on the global stage,” said Dr. Muchima.
He said this opens avenues for international partnerships and trade, allowing Zambia to export pharmaceutical products with confidence and attract foreign investment.
And Dr. Muchima said Local pharmaceutical manufacturers will benefit from the accredited Laboratory through improved quality control measures.
He thanked he European Union for providing funds to construct the ZAMRA headquarters and Laboratories.
