The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has expressed concern over the growing financial struggles faced by teachers.
NAQEZ Executive Director, Aaron Chansa says the financial stress is taking a toll on teachers’ mental and physical health leading them to be anxious and depressed.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Dr. Chansa said some teachers who opt for loans to make ends meet and upgrade their studies often leads to indebtedness which is not well managed.
“Government must intervene and ensure teachers are paid decent wages to help them manage their financial obligations,” said Dr. Chansa.
He has also called for deliberate efforts by government to make sure that teachers receive financial literacy to help them manage their finances.
