The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has commended Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima for his recent remarks highlighting the need to support teachers, particularly those working in rural areas.
Speaking on January 24, 2025, Mr. Syakalima emphasized the pivotal role teachers play in the country’s education system, acknowledging the significant challenges educators face, especially in remote workstations, and applauded their resilience in championing literacy among learners.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka NAQEZ Executive Director, Aaron Chansa, underscored the urgent need to prioritize teacher accommodation.
“Many teachers in rural areas are enduring indecent living conditions and Improving their housing and providing access to essential amenities like the internet can greatly enhance their morale and performance,” said Mr. Chansa.
Mr. Chansa also highlighted the importance of regular training and professional development opportunities to equip teachers with updated skills and knowledge.
