The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has commended the government of Finland for allocating K15.2 million to the Ministry of Education to support climate-resilient school meals and sustainable food production.
NAQEZ Executive Director, Aaron Chansa, stated that the funding will significantly enhance food production in schools, ensuring that learners receive nutritious meals vital for their health, cognitive development, and overall academic performance.
Dr. Chansa urged the Ministry of Education to ensure that the funds are used for their intended purpose, emphasizing that food production should be overseen by trained teachers to prevent resource mismanagement.
“Other donor agencies are urged to support the school feeding programs, especially in areas severely affected by drought, as a hungry child cannot concentrate in class,” said Dr. Chansa.
