China Railways Engineering Corporation has commenced preparations for the construction of the facilities for the Nakonde One Stop Border Post.
Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Acting Assistant Commissioner, Chindongwe Chimuka, says the Chinese firm is expected to finish constructing the first phase of the One Stop Border Post by September this year.
Mr. Chimuka told RCV News in a statement today that the first phase of the construction has been funded by Trade-Mark East Africa while the second phase will be funded by the World Bank.
He said the construction will come with many facilities such as a truck yard, a scanner and customs facilities.
“The current facilities are not adequate for the One Stop Border Post as they do not support its full operations”, said Mr. Chimuka.
And speaking during his tour at the Nakonde One Stop Border Post to check on its operations, Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati said the transformation of the Border Post will promote efficiency and facilitate trade.
Mr. Mutati said gadgets will be installed at the border to monitor and control operations and that the government wants to ensure it also enhances its revenue collection.
