Medical for Quality Health Care in Zambia (MQHZ) has expressed support for the recent announcement by Health Minister Elijah Muchima regarding the revision of the nursing curriculum in Zambia.
MQHZ Director General Quince Mwabu described the proposed changes as a positive step toward enhancing the quality of healthcare services across the country.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Dr. Mwabu stressed the importance of not only updating the curriculum but also ensuring practical implementation, highlighting the need for ongoing support for nurses through adequate resources, mentorship programs, and continuous professional development.
“It is believed that this initiative has the potential to significantly improve patient outcomes, enhance patient satisfaction, and increase trust in the healthcare system, particularly in areas like maternal and child health where poor service delivery has been a concern’’, said Dr.Mwabu.
Dr. Mwabu recommended that the revised curriculum places a strong emphasis on practical skills training, patient-centered care, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve the overall quality of care.
He said he is optimistic that the initiative will lead to significant and lasting improvements in Zambia’s healthcare delivery.
