The Medical for Quality Healthcare (MQHZ) has expressed concern with revelations that the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) is facing challenges on meeting its claims obligations.
Last week, NHIMA Director General Micheal Njapua disclosed that the authority owes K600 Million in claims to its accredited medical facilities.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka, MQHZ Director General, Quince Mwabu says this may potentially lead to shortages of essential medicines, equipment, and decreased access to healthcare service, citing that vulnerable populations, such as the poor and elderly will mostly be affected.
“NHIMA should prioritize settling the outstanding claims to avoid interruptions in service delivery,” said Dr. Mwabu.
Dr. Mwabu has noted that NHIMA plays a pivotal role in financing quality healthcare services, citing the importance of NHIMA’s financial strain to not compromise health outcomes of Zambians.
