The Mpika town council has agreed that all loan defaulters who have not repaid their loans in Mpika constituency will be taken to the police for jailing.
This was after a Mpika Constituency Development Fund Committee meeting, where members resolved that all loan defaulters should face the law for failing to repay their debt.
Town Council Director of Planning, Martha Chikwanda, said that loan defaulters who will be reported to the police are those who obtained CDF loans during the 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Ms. Chikwanda further added that referring defaulters to the police will serve as a warning to others considering applying for a loan in future.
And Mpika Constituency Development Fund Committee Chairperson, Protasio Mankangala, clarified that citizens should not blame the Council or CDFC members for reporting them to police, as it is an action mandated by the law.
“The CDFC member’s role, is to also ensure the recovery of funds is done accordingly so that other citizens can benefit,” said Mr. Mankangala in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today, by Mpika town council Public Relations Officer Mushota Mpundu.
