Mopani Copper Mines has completed producing the first 200 tonnes of Copper Anodes since President Hichilema handed over the company to the new equity partner International Resources Holdings -IRH in March this year.
Mopani Copper Mines Chief Executive Officer Charles Sakanya says the mine’s current copper output stands at 65,000 tonnes and under International Resources Holdings, plans are underway to ramp up production to 225,000 tonnes.
Mr. Sakanya also disclosed that in the last three months, 400 professionals have been employed to increase productivity.
Speaking when Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati paid a courtesy call on Mufulira District Commissioner Saboi Kabika ahead of a graduation of students at the Mopani Central Training Center, Mr. Sakanya said full operations at Mopani Copper Mines are expected to start in October.
He said the mine has doubled its shifts, and this has led to an upswing in production figures.
And Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati said the revival of Mufulira has brought hope to the town of Mufulira.
Mr. Mutati said the paying of K220 million to contractors and suppliers has helped people have disposable income.
