Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) President, Nevers Mumba, has expressed concern over a growing trend among some opposition members who, ahead of next year’s general elections, have resorted to spreading misinformation.
Addressing the media this morning, Dr. Mumba, who is also a member of the UPND Alliance, stated that the country was facing a “war against lies” propagated by the opposition.
He argued that their reliance on falsehoods was a last resort, as they had run out of time to present credible alternatives.
Dr. Mumba dismissed claims by the opposition that President Hakainde Hichilema had destroyed Zambia’s economy, making it the sixth poorest country in the world.
And Commenting on the proposed Constitution Amendments, Dr. Mumba maintained that the amendment was not controversial, contrary to perceptions among the opposition and sections of the general public.
He argued that the Patriotic Front’s (PF) Bill 10 had been far more contentious in comparison.
Dr. Mumba further emphasized the urgency of amending the Constitution before the 2026 general elections, asserting that the changes would benefit the opposition more than the ruling UPND.
He added that President Hichilema was an honest leader, not a “crook,” and that amending the Constitution would ensure he is not tempted to overstay in power.
