MMD LEADER MOURNS MAUREEN MWANAWASA

Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) President, Nevers Mumba, says the country has lost an effective and active Former First Lady, Maureen Mwanawasa.

Dr. Mwanawasa passed away last evening at Maina Soko Medical Center in Lusaka after a short illness.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Dr. Mumba said Dr. Mwanawasa will be remembered not only as the wife of the second MMD President, the late Patrick Mwanawasa, but also for her significant role in mobilizing the party.

“She will also be remembered for the dedication and commitment to community work and matters concerning a girl child”, said Dr. Mumba.

Dr. Mumba has also expressed his honor in having served as Vice President during the tenure of the late President Mwanawasa and the late First Lady Dr. Mwanawasa.

He since extended his heartfelt condolences to the Mwanawasa and Kakubo families, and the nation at large.

Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the country to unite it joins the late Former First Lady’s family, and the nation, in prayer.

“It is with deep shock and sorrow that we have learnt of the passing of the former first lady, Mrs. Maureen Kakubo Mwanawasa”, said the President on his official Facebook page last evening.
