Mining Expert, Edward Simukonda has expressed concern with the continued illegal mining by foreign nationals in the country.
Mr. Simukonda says the illegal mining activities have not only resulted in significant revenues losses for government but have also led to environmental degradation and health risks.
Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Mr. Simukonda has expressed sadness with governments efforts to resolve illegal mining by foreign nationals, which he described as below par.
“It is unfortunate that government has not upscaled surveillance and monitoring of illegal mining in the country,” said Mr. Simukonda.
He has therefore urged government to implement policies that will address the exploitation of the country’s mineral resources by foreigners.
