The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has allocated over K900,000 towards the construction of a modern market shelter at Railway Market in Lima Ward 30, Matero Constituency.
The new facility, funded under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is expected to accommodate more than 300 traders, significantly improving the trading environment in the area.
LCC Assistant Public Relations Officer, Nyambe Bulumba, said traders have been temporarily relocated to a nearby site to allow construction works to commence without disrupting business operations.
“This market will go a long way in enhancing the trading environment, improving the livelihoods of local traders, and contributing to the economic development of the area,” said Mr. Bulumba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He added that the local authority remains committed to uplifting the welfare of residents in Matero Constituency through developmental initiatives such as this.
Mr. Bulumba further urged residents and marketeers to cooperate with contractors during the construction period and to take full responsibility for maintaining the facility once it is completed.
