A Lusaka maid only identified as Memory Kazhila, aged 22 has been stabbed to death by a fellow maid only identified as Mary after a suspected dispute.
Police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said the incident occurred around 17:30 hours on May 5, 2025, and was reported by Saviour Kakoma on behalf of his friend, Innocent Ngoma of Lilayi.
Mr. Hamoonga said Preliminary investigations reveal that both maids were employed by the Ngoma family and had recently started sharing a room.
“Tensions reportedly escalated after the deceased confronted Mary over suspected bedwetting,” said Mr. Hamoonga in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
He said that on the day of the incident, the Ngoma couple had left for work, leaving the two maids and four children at home adding that the 12-year-old child noticed blood seeping from the bedroom and was told by Mary it was from a slaughtered chicken.
Mr. Hamoonga said that upon entering the room, the child found Kazhila’s body.
He said that Police found the victim lying on her back with deep stab wounds to her chest, right arm, and stomach adding that her body was taken to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
Mr. Hamoonga said that Mary has since fled, and police have launched a manhunt urging anyone with information of the whereabouts of Mary to contact the nearest police station.
