LUMEZI CHIEFS GET CDF PALACES

Lumezi Town Council will this year construct two Palaces for Chieftainess Mwasemphangwe and Chief Kazembe, using funding from the 2023 and 2024 CDF allocation.

The Local Authority through the Zambia Correctional Service has already embarked on the construction of Chieftainess Mwasemphangwe’s Palace at a cost of over K4M..

Lumezi Council Acting Public Relations Officer, Irvin Muyumbwa , says the two palaces are among the 16 chiefs’ palaces that are to be constructed using CDF in Eastern Province after the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development signed contracts with the Zambia Correctional Service for the works.

“In Lumezi District, Chieftainess Mwasemphangwe becomes the first recipient of a Palace by virtue of being the longest serving chief,” said Mr. Muyumbwa in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said the Council working through the traditional leadership on 10th January, 2024 handed over the construction site of the Palace to the Zambia Correctional Service whose works are earmarked to be completed within 6 months.

“The works on the construction of the more than K4 million Palace for Chieftainess Mwasemphangwe will consist of a 4 bedroom high cost Chief’s house, 2×2 bedroom low cost retainers’ houses and a meeting room,” said Mr. Muyumbwa.

Mr. Muyumbwabwa said the Chiefs’ Palaces will give traditional leaders decent accommodation befitting their leadership roles in the community once completed.
