LONG DISTANCE BUS DRIVERS PLAN TO STRIKE OVER POOR SALARIES

The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) has called for calm among long distance bus drivers that intend to strike tomorrow, Friday, 23, 2024, over low salaries.

FFTUZ Secretary General, Nelson Mwale, says the union has received information that all long distance bus drivers intend to down tools tomorrow due to poor conditions of service.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Mwale said that the union is cognizant of the challenges long distance bus drivers are facing which he said are being addressed by the Ministry of Labor.

“The Union is aware that some bus drivers operate without contracts and are under paid”, said Mr. Mwale.

He said that union engaged in fruitful discussion with the Coaches Driver Union and Ministry of Labor where a resolution was made to address the challenges drivers are facing.

Mr. Mwale said that a strike by the long distance bus driver has the potential to jeopardies the movement of people across the country.
