LICENTIATE EXAM FOR TEACHERS PROGRESSIVE – NAQEZ

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia NAQEZ has welcomed cabinets decision to introduce licentiate examinations for new teachers, as a prerequisite for registration and employment.

Yesterday, Cabinet approved the repeal of the Teaching Profession Act to among others, introduce licensure examinations for teachers.

NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa says the introduction of licentiate examinations signifies a pivotal step towards scrutinising the professional competence, academic prowess and moral integrity of prospective teachers.

“In light of the mushrooming teacher training institutions nationwide, it is imperative that teachers go through extra tests before practicing,” said Mr. Chansa in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said that the exams will cultivate a culture of diligence and excellence within teacher training institutions.

Mr. Chansa has therefore called for inclusive engagements with all stakeholders in the education sector before the licentiate examinations are rolled out.
