LET’S UPHOLD CULTURAL RESPECT AMID LUNGU BURIAL IMPASSE

Battle Cry founder, Obrian Mayambu, has expressed concern over what he described as growing mockery surrounding the burial impasse of former President Edgar Lungu, saying it goes against Zambia’s cultural values.

Speaking in an interview with RCV News in Lusaka today, Apostle Mayambu said it was unfortunate that some Zambians have resorted to making light of the situation, especially on social media, instead of showing respect for the deceased.

“Zambian culture demands that the dead is respected and this is not the culture the younger generation should be exposed to, one where the dead are mocked,” said Apostle Mayambu.

Apostle Mayambu accused political leaders of worsening the matter by viewing it through partisan lenses rather than as a solemn national issue.

He urged political parties and ordinary citizens alike to refrain from making derogatory remarks about the funeral standoff and instead, allow the legal process to run its course, noting that dialogue between government and the Lungu family had failed to yield a solution.

Apostle Mayambu stressed the need to respect the court’s judgment and uphold traditions  saying that funerals should be a time for unity and dignity, with all disputes resolved after burial.
