LET’S BE PATIENT WITH ZESCO – CHIKWANDA

Energy Expert Johnstone Chikwanda says Zesco’s reapplication for tariff adjustment to the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) seeks to reduce electricity units for about 730,000 households.

Dr. Chikwanda says Zesco’s request to change the electricity tariffs is on those who use more than 500 units.

He said the application seeks to increase the price of electricity for some big commercial customers, some of whom have been paying less than what churches and orphanages pay.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, Dr. Chikwanda stated that the application is about raising money so that Zesco can import more electricity and to improve the energy security in the country.

And, Mr. Chikwanda has called upon the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to consider importing solar panels, inverters and batteries in bulk for selling to the public at prices which reflect the waived taxes to assist stabilise the prices for a period of time.
