The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has demolished twelve illegal makeshift stalls erected around Cross-Roads Mall along Leopards Hill road in Lusaka.
The joint team of LCC police and State Police undertook the demolition exercise which occurred in the early hours of today, 9th October, 2024.
LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, says the demolition exercise was undertaken following several notices and warnings issued to the owners of the illegal makeshift stalls.
She said efforts to engage with the owners and provide ample time for compliance were ignored.
“The structures also posed significant safety and environment hazards, obstructing motorists and pedestrian pathways and contributing to unsanitary conditions” said Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.
