LCC TO REMOVE ILLEGAL BILLBOARDS

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) will today, 28th June 2024, dismantle all illegal billboards in the city, as part of the council’s ongoing efforts to maintain a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment for residents and visitors alike.

LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager, Nyambe Bulumba, says this is because proliferation of illegal billboards has become a growing concern, as they detract from the city’s beauty and creating an eyesore for motorists and pedestrians.

Mr. Nyambe said the billboards in question are those erected without the requisite approval of the local authority, and installed in undesignated areas, including along roads, obstructing motorists and causing accidents.

He also said the said Billboard owners are installing billboards with sizes that have not been approved by the council, compounding the problem.

“In addition to removing illegal billboards, the LCC will also be working with legal billboard owners to ensure that their structures comply with council regulations,” said Mr. Nyambe in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said the work includes verifying that all billboards have the necessary permits and approvals, and that they are installed in designated areas that do not obstruct traffic or pedestrian flow.

Mr. Nyambe also appealed to the public, including motorists, to report any illegal or improperly installed billboards to the Council, to enable the local authority swiftly address the situation.
