LCC TO INSPECT BUSES FOR BEDBUGS

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it will start conducting regular inspections of Public Passenger Buses.

LCC says the move comes after  several complaints from members of the public on the poor conditions of buses for local routes in Lusaka.

LCC Assistant Public Relations Manager, Nyambe Bulumba, says  the neglect of the vehicles, including those on inter-route buses by their owners, has created an environment conducive to the proliferation of bedbugs, posing a significant risk to public health.

“In addition to regular inspections, the council is also urging bus owners to provide solid waste receptacles to prevent passengers from throwing litter outside the windows,” said Mr. Bulumba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

He said that bus owners who fail to maintain their vehicles in a satisfactory condition will face penalties, including fines and the possible revocation of their operating licenses.

Mr. Bulumba has reiterated the councils commitment to  ensuring that all public transport vehicles operating within the city meet the required standards of cleanliness, safety and maintenance.
