LCC READY TO TACKLE RAIN ASSOCIATED EPIDEMICS

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it has adequately prepared to keep the city free from diseases that break out during the rainy season, by enforcing adherence to the Public Health Act,  CAP  295 of the Laws of Zambia.

This is in response to concerns raised by some members of the public on what the Council is doing to prevent another episode of cholera following last rainy season’s outbreak.

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, says  various preventive measures are currently being undertaken with the focus on clearing waste from areas that have high waste  generation.

Ms. Mwamba says inspection of public places such as bus stations, markets and bars to check the compliance levels on  cleanliness, have also been heightened.

“During this period, members of the public are encouraged to be proactive by actively participating in cleaning public places and not waiting for disease outbreaks,” advised Ms. Mwamba in a statement issued to RCV News in Lusaka today.

Ms. Mwamba urged market masters and bus station managers to ensure strict monitoring of measures set in respect with the Council’s guidelines of keeping the surroundings clean and safe for everyone.

She further cautioned residents who are in a tendency of littering and disposing garbage in undesignated places to desist from doing so as they will face the wrath of law once found wanting.
