The Lusaka City Council (LCC)-Fire Brigade has successfully extinguished a fire that had engulfed a gas-selling stand along Salim drive, Oriental Company area in Makeni Konga.
LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba says that the fire which is reported to have started at approximately 17:00 hours yesterday, was discovered by the owner of the stall named as Mr. Abraham Mukanda with his workers who immediately reported the incident to the Local Authority’s Fire Brigade.
In a statement issue to RCV News in Lusaka today, Ms. Mwamba stated that details of the incident are that the fire started after one of the workers connected a cell phone charger on the adapter resulting sparks which ignited the gas cylinder suspected to have had a gas leakage and the incident Involved a seven 45kg’s of LPG cylinders used as main supply for gas retail business.
“The cause of fire is suspected to have originated from an electric fault, causing severe damage to the structural building and other items which are yet to be assessed and costed,” said Ms. Mwamba.
She also added that there was no loss of human life or injuries recorded during the incident as a quick action from the Fire Brigade prevented the cylinders from exploding.
Ms. Mamba since urged shop owners and members of public to ensure that electric installations in their business premises and homes are to be done by experts to avoid accidents of a similar nature and the authority reaffirms its commitment of safeguarding human life and property in the city.
